Reliance Jio has been on headlines in Telecom industry from November 2016. It is providing the cheapest offers that used to only be a dream until now for the common man in India. We should also consider the fact that VoLTE was launched at the right time. Exactly when India was suffering from low speeds and extremely high costs. After the launch, VoLTE went viral as everyone in the country is using smartphones. Everyone is in need of cheap and fast Internet everywhere.
Even though telecom giants like Idea and Bharati Airtel are trying to beat the prices of Reliance Jio. They cannot afford for that decline in the prices. The reason Jio has no perfect competition is that it is one and only provider which uses voice over LTE (VoLTE). It is a low-cost method of communication between devices compared to 2G, 3G, and 4G. Jio is a new telecom company and only provides 4G and future services it doesn’t need to support old technologies like 2G and 3G, which was anyways dying out already.
Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are making necessary arrangements to launch VoLTE to protect their low-end subscriber base. Because they generate 70% of the company’s profits. It is estimated that over 200 million 4G VoLTE phones will be sold in India in the next five years.
